It was once a fishing village called Mazzarelli, and the medieval heart of the old town is still known by this name. It is now a vibrant area full of bars, cafés and restaurants. The town itself has all the amenities you need, including a supermarket just 3 minutes from the apartment. There are several places close to the main marina where you can hire boats or pedaloes. Alternatively, you can try sailing, windsurfing, paddle-boarding or kite-surfing. Away from the coast is the lovely town of Scicli (20 minutes), which is not only an architectural treasure, full of Baroque palaces and churches; it also has an excellent weekly market (Tuesdays) in Via Saffi. Here visitors can buy the best local produce. The regional capital is the better-known town of Ragusa (25 minutes). Ragusa, like Scicli, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is famous for its Baroque architecture and winding lanes. The town also hosts a prestigious music competition and festival every July. Catania’s International Airport is a 1-hour 45-minute drive from the apartment.
