Escape from the rat race to this traditional timber mountain lodge in the Slovenian Alps, close to the charming town of Radovljica. Guests can relax in this tranquil spot, listening to the cowbells and enjoying the surrounding mountain pastures, forests and fresh alpine air. The cosy family bedroom, tucked under the wooden eaves on the first floor, has a double bed and a single bed, with a wardrobe, table and chairs. The property is a traditional timber mountain lodge with four guest rooms sharing one bathroom. As is typical of an older wooden mountain building, floorboards may creak and some sound from the other guest rooms may be heard. Downstairs, there are attractive shared indoor and outdoor dining areas. There is no kitchen or cooking facility available to guests, but the lodge serves hearty home cooking, with breakfast available at weekends and other meals on request, so you can eat well after a day in the hills. The green garden includes a children’s playground. Bathroom There is one shared bathroom serving all four guest rooms in the lodge, located on the landing, with a shower, basin and WC. The water pump operates on electricity. As the lodge is primarily powered by solar energy, water pressure and temperature may occasionally fluctuate. The lodge operates primarily on solar-generated electricity, with limited battery capacity, particularly overnight. Guests are kindly asked to use electricity responsibly and avoid high-consumption electrical appliances. If the batteries become depleted, electricity may temporarily be unavailable until the system is restored or the generator is started. As the water pump also depends on electricity, this may temporarily affect the water supply. Free Wi-Fi is available for guests, but due to the remote mountain location, the speed and stability of the connection may vary and uninterrupted high-speed internet cannot be guaranteed. There are no kitchen, cooking or self-catering facilities available to guests. Breakfast is available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (€11 per person). Other meals are also available on request, subject to availability. The lodge is reached via an unpaved mountain/forest road – the final access to the property is not asphalted. A car is essential, and guests should be comfortable driving on mountain roads. Extra care is recommended after dark or in poor weather. Location The lodge is only 1 hour and 10 minutes from Ljubljana, yet surrounded by pristine alpine landscapes. The Slovenian Alps are popular with hikers and cyclists, with numerous mountain-bike routes and hiking trails allowing visitors to explore the beautiful countryside. The peace is the point here, but two of the region's loveliest spots are each about half an hour's drive down in the valley. Lake Bled needs little introduction, with its famous island church, reached by a traditional pletna boat, its clifftop castle, the gentle path that rings the emerald water, and the celebrated cream cake, kremšnita, to finish. The nearby Vintgar Gorge, with its wooden walkways above the river, and Lake Bohinj in Triglav National Park make easy trips too. Radovljica, meanwhile, is one of Slovenia's prettiest medieval towns, known as "sweet Radovljica" for its honey and chocolate. You can wander the colourful old town around Linhart Square, visit the renowned Museum of Apiculture and the Lectar honeybread workshop, and linger over coffee and cake well away from the crowds. Ljubljana is a small city packed with history and makes an ideal day trip. A tour of its medieval castle is not to be missed, nor is a visit to the Central Market, where you can find fresh local produce and regional delicacies. Ljubljana’s international airport is a 40-minute drive.
