Life here moves at walking pace, and the island rewards it: a gentle trail climbs Korinjak hill for sweeping views over the archipelago and Kornati National Park, quiet coves invite a swim, and the islet of Rutnjak lies just offshore, an easy kayak trip for a picnic in complete peace. Each July, the Iška fešta fills the village with concerts, boat races and the crowning of the King of Iž. Veli Iž is reached by a scenic boat ride from Zadar, with the foot-passenger ferry and the Jadrolinija catamaran taking between 55 minutes and around an hour and a half.
