The sea is close by, about a five-minute drive or a twenty-minute walk away, while the centre of Forte dei Marmi, with its cafés and restaurants, lies around two kilometres from the house. It makes a wonderful base for exploring Versilia and the Tuscany beyond. The sculptors' town of Pietrasanta is about six kilometres away, the Liberty-era seafront of Viareggio around fifteen, and the marble quarries of Carrara roughly thirty. Historic Lucca, ringed by its Renaissance walls, lies about thirty-five kilometres off and Pisa, with its Leaning Tower, about forty, while the pastel villages of the Cinque Terre are around an hour and a half away by car.
