A 606 Nautical Mile Offshore Spectacle in Malta!

Every October, the Rolex Middle Sea Race draws the world’s most passionate sailors to the Grand Harbour of Valletta, framed by Malta’s stunning baroque skyline. First held in 1968, the race was born from a friendly rivalry between British sailors and the Royal Malta Yacht Club and has since become a cornerstone of the Mediterranean sailing calendar.

Now in its 47th edition, the 606-nautical-mile offshore challenge is set to begin on Saturday, 17 October 2026. Starting from Malta, the demanding anti-clockwise course circles Sicily, navigating the Strait of Messina and passing the Aeolian Islands (including Strombolicchio), the Egadi Islands (excluding Marettimo), Pantelleria, and Lampedusa. The fleet returns via the South Comino Channel, keeping Malta to starboard, and finishes back where it began.

About the Area

Malta, the host of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, is a sun-soaked island in the heart of the Mediterranean with a rich maritime history. Valletta, its capital and race starting point, is a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with grand forts, narrow streets, and dramatic sea views. Beyond the race, visitors can explore ancient temples, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, and enjoy fresh seafood along charming harbours. October is the perfect time to experience Malta—warm days, fewer crowds, and a cultural calendar brimming with local festivals.
