Vecchia Fattoria is a historical grand farmhouse with a beautiful garden, private pool and air-conditioned bedrooms, most of which have en suite bathrooms. Set in the heart of Bettolle, a quaint village in the Val di Chiana not far south of Siena, the home sits within a large walled courtyard, whilst the shops and restaurants can be reached within a stroll from the main gates.
The term “fattoria” refers to a working farm, typically where grapes or olives are pressed and processed for wine or oil. In medieval times Vecchia Fattoria was the centre of one of the Grand Duke of Tuscany's richest estates. Bettolle is famed for it's local produce and the Val di Chiana as a whole offers a particularly rich culinary history; the prized "chianina" variety of beef hails from this very area.
The interiors are classy yet understated, the choice of warm tones and antiques add finesse whilst the choice of original Renaissance artwork is simply with exquisite. The huge living and dining room, high-ceilinged and featuring a massive ornate stone fireplace, branches off towards the long kitchen on one side, the other leading to the bedrooms on the upper floors.
All but two of the comfortable air-conditioned bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, every space elegantly furnished and warmly decorated. Some view onto the lovely courtyard, offering an outdoor living area perfect for an aperitivo, an afternoon lounge or for lovely meals under the shaded dining table.
The private pool is set on a terrace below the courtyard, down a slight of steps which lead to the lawns that encompass and extend beyond the pool. Secular cypress and pine trees line this meticulously kept garden area and allows for total privacy, whilst a summer kitchen adjacent to the pool adds to the comfort and convenience.
Bettolle and its shops and restaurants is a very easy walk if you want to stay local, otherwise Siena, the Chianti and Montepulciano are all within easy reach by car.
