Italy’s most famous festival is returning in 2026

Also known as Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo, the Sanremo Music Festival is Italy’s most famous and much-awaited music event. Since its debut in 1951, the Sanremo Music Festival has remained a powerful launchpad for rising artists.

A Legacy of Music Legends

The original inspiration behind the Eurovision Song Contest, the Sanremo Festival has launched the careers of icons like Andrea Bocelli, Laura Pausini, and Eros Ramazzotti. Who could forget Domenico Modugno’s unforgettable "Nel blu dipinto di blu" (Volare), which took the world by storm after its 1958 Sanremo win!

Over the years, it has played a major role in shaping Italian pop culture and music, making it one of the country’s most significant events. Held annually in the picturesque city of Sanremo on the Italian Riviera, the festival continues to be a cornerstone of Italy’s vibrant music scene.

What to expect this year?

The 76th Sanremo Music Festival will take place from 24 to 28 February 2026 at the Teatro Ariston. This year, 26 established artists (Campioni) and 4 emerging acts (Nuove Proposte) will compete across five evenings of live performances. The format remains similar, with jury votes divided between the press, radio, and public televoting. The first three nights feature the artists’ original songs, followed by the popular Cover Night on Friday, where participants perform classic Italian or international hits with guest artists. On Saturday’s grand finale, the top five finalists will perform once more, and combined jury scores will decide the winner, who will also represent Italy at Eurovision 2026.
