Launched in 1986, the Malta Marathon has grown into a celebrated international race that attracts local and international runners to experience Malta on foot. Known for its friendly atmosphere and scenic downhill route, the event includes a full marathon, half marathon, walkathon, and a 5 km charity run.
Taking place on Sunday, 22 February 2026, it offers something for every level of runner, from first-timers to seasoned athletes.
What to Expect?
Participants can choose their pace and challenge:
- Full Marathon (42.195 km) – Starts at 07:00 from Mdina, with a 5-hour limit.
- Half Marathon (21.097 km) – Starts at 08:15, ideal for intermediate runners.
- Walkathon (21.097 km) – Also at 08:15, with a 3-hour 45-minute limit.
- 5 km Charity Run – Starts at 07:10 from Sliema, open to all ages.
The route leads runners from Mdina’s medieval streets through Maltese countryside, charming towns, and coastal roads before finishing by the sea. The course is chip-timed, well-marked, and supported with water stations, medical staff, and traffic management throughout.
At the finish line in Sliema, runners can look forward to finisher medals, refreshments, and the lively energy of Malta’s waterfront. Facilities like luggage transport, toilets, and changing rooms make race day smooth and stress-free.
