Sestriere, which hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics, has a lot to offer throughout the year. In winter, the slopes around the resort suit skiers and snowboarders of all levels. There is cross-country skiing, heli-skiing, ice skating, motor sledging, dog sledging and snowshoeing. There is even an outdoor heated swimming pool which is open in the winter and summer seasons. Restaurants and bars are less than a 10-minute walk away. For self-catering, Sestriere has supermarkets and smaller shops selling local specialities.
