Visitors will enjoy the hiking trails through the woods; climbing the higher slopes, or simply going for a dip in the crystal-clear river. Sonogno, the last village at the end of the valley is only 25 minutes by car. The beautiful city of Locarno, on the shores of Lake Maggiore, is 10 minutes away. The Thursday market in Piazza Grande combines a farmers market, where you can pick up the best local produce, with stalls selling regional crafts and second-hand clothes, books etc. Away from the lake is the historic town of Bellinzona (20 minutes), famous for its 3 medieval castles, which make up a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It makes for a great day trip. If you miss the Locarno market then Bellinzona’s weekly market (Saturday morning) is one of the best in the region. The closest international airport is in Italy, Milan Malpensa is 1 hour 50 minutes away by car.
