Protected by the woods of Calimera the Masseria San Biagio is a tranquil oasis in the heart of Salento. A contemporary residence, built around a central courtyard, it has been created in a traditional style. The double room makes the perfect base for a couple who want to explore this lovely part of Puglia. This spacious, ground-floor bedroom has an independent entrance off the main courtyard. It is furnished with a double bed, drawers, a writing table, a wardrobe and a flat-screen TV. There is also an en suite bathroom. Masseria San Biagio’s gardens and outside spaces have been created with as much care and attention as the interiors. Guests can enjoy breakfast outside, with honey from the bees on the estate and homemade marmalade. The owners have laid out different paths around the grounds, which range from the scents path through aromatic herbs and flowers; to the historical path which leads to the chapel of San Biagio which is over 1000 years old and the fitness path for more energetic guests. The large shared swimming pool is surrounded by an extensive terrace, furnished with sun loungers, umbrellas and seating areas. It makes the ideal spot to relax in the sun after a refreshing dip. The town is known for its traditional white houses as well as palaces and beautiful churches. Calimera’s weekly market takes place on Thursday and is the best place to pick up the freshest local delicacies and experience authentic Puglian life. Salento’s most beautiful beaches are all within easy reach. The beaches at Otranto (25 minutes), Porto Cesareo (45 minutes) and Gallipoli (45 minutes) are known for their pristine sea and shallow waters, ideal for younger children and snorkelling. Golfers will enjoy the two courses near the town of Acaya (20 minutes) or for more exercise and a hike through unspoilt Mediterranean countryside, there is the WWF nature reserve of Le Cesine (25 minutes). The closest airport is at Brindisi - just 55 minutes away by car.
