Ban Jelačić Square is the centre of Zagreb. The square is surrounded by some magnificent buildings from the late 19th Century onwards. Ilica Avenue leads off the square and is Zagreb’s longest shopping street. It is home to international and local brands as well as some good coffee shops. Guests can cover most of central Zagreb on foot, and visit some of the more popular places, including the Cathedral (22 minutes), which was founded in the 11th century but rebuilt after an earthquake in 1880. There are alternative, more whimsical options, such as the Museum of Broken Relationships (17 minutes) and the Museum of Hangovers (25 minutes). Or head to Tkalčićeva Street in the Upper Town, (25 minutes) with its cafés and bars: The city hosts many farmers’ markets where you can buy the best local produce to cook at home. Britanski Trg (British Square) is just a 6-minute walk from the apartment. During the week it is the place to shop for groceries with the locals and on Sunday the square turns into an antique fair where visitors can pick up some interesting and cool antiques. Franjo Tudman International Airport in Zagreb, is 37 minutes away by car. Arriving by train? Zagreb Glavni Kolod Station is only 13 minutes by taxi.
