The city hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the “Luganomusica” festival every summer. For a more active kind of festival, try one of the regular mountain running races which make up the Ticino Mountain Running Cup. A leisurely day trip on the Lago Lugano is a must, as is a walk along Lugano’s famous waterfront, with breathtaking views over the lake. Then head to Piazza della Riforma, the true heart of the city, a beautiful square, lined with cafés and restaurants. The closest international airports are in Italy - Milan Malpensa 1 hour and 5 minutes away by car, or Milan Linate, a 1 hour and 20-minute journey. Arriving by train?
