The apartment is in a building called Dimora dell'Antico Porto. It is right on the shores of Lake Maggiore in the oldest piazza in the town of Arona, next to the 14th century harbour, which used to be much busier than it is today. The charming little church across the square from the residence was built in 1592.
16th century arches and original wrought iron balconies bear the coat of arms of the Borromeo family add to the ancient home's charm.
Inside, the apartment is stylishly decorated featuring; exposed brickwork, original stonemasonry and a cool terracotta tiled floor throughout. The cosy open-plan living space is furnished with a sofa bed, a flat-screen digital HD TV and a dining table and chairs. This room also incorporates the kitchen which is equipped with; a cooker hob, a microwave, a Nespresso machine and a fridge freezer and leads out to the terrace.

Location
Located on the western shore of Lake Maggiore, the picturesque town of Arona is directly across from the Borromean Islands. Visitors can take the ferry (a 15-minute walk) and visit the small islands of Isola Bella and the Palazzo Borromeo, the imposing 17th-century palace and its famous gardens.
Arona has a lakeside promenade and a well-preserved historic center with charming streets and traditional Italian architecture. Situated in Piazza Popolo, the apartment is a stone’s throw away from wonderful bistros, bars and restaurants and you can enjoy culinary influences from France, Switzerland and Italy.
A hillside path leads from Piazza del Popolo to the home of the Sacro Monte di San Carlo (a 25-minute walk) and Colossus of San Carlo Borromeo, a massive bronze statue of St. Charles Borromeo. Nestled amongst gardens and chapels overlooking the lake this was once the tallest statue in the world standing over 23 meters tall.
Arona is also a great base to explore other charming towns and attractions around Lake Maggiore, including Stresa (a 25-minute drive), Verbania (a 40-minute drive) and the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens (a 42-minute drive). Visitors can also enjoy hiking and mountain biking in the nearby hills and forests.
The nearest international airport is Milan Malpensa (MXP), approximately a 40-minute drive from the accommodation.
